So today I logged into jeffisageek.net and worked on cleaning up all the Cobwebs and getting the mess cleared up.... It has been forever since I really put together a blog post (minus my automated ones) and I thought its time to get back into the game.
So starting now I am gonna try to get some blog posts on here daily, add some posts with pictures, as well as some with video.
So one of my favorite plugins for WordPress is/was Lifestream which would allow me to post content from my other social services into a nice blog post on the site which I used to post stories I shared on Google Reader.
So jump back a couple months ago and all of a sudden the plugin decided to start not posting my daily blog post which of course bummed me out.
But I am happy to report that this morning I woke up and found a new post was put up on the site by the plugin and I hope this is a sign that the posts will be back!!! I know I have some followers who really enjoyed getting the daily roundup of what I found interesting around the interwebs.
So recently I have not had much along the lines of content here on (jeff)isageek dot net. I don't know if I hit a wall and lost the urge to write long blog posts, just been lazy, or maybe its all the other social networks that seem to draw me away from the traditional blogging.
I really do want to get back into doing my regular posts and I can feel that urge coming back but hey sometimes it happens. In some ways I have kinda felt myself being pulled into a couple directions and start thinking do I want to do this with the site? Do I want to do that with the site? I think it doesn't help that my mind is always going like 500 mph and thinking of the new kool way to share my thoughts and content.
So with that said I am gonna work on getting back on track and getting the blogging bug back! Also thanks for sticking with me and following (jeff)isageek.net
There are always those sites that have no real productivity value, knowledge gathering, or can really help you in life but are just plain fun and yesterday when going through my tumblr feeds I stumbled across a new one called violentjisjohngoodman.
Basically as you can see in the pictures below the focus on the site is taking a picture of John Goodman and putting the face paint from Violent J of the Insane Clown Posse together. Pure Awesomeness....Enjoy!
So I jumped over to the blog this morning and noticed it has been about a week or so since I posted anything other then my daily shared items. how crappy is that! hehe
I need to get some posts out and get back on track getting content added. So Just wanted to say hey and let you know I am still around...of course if you follow me on twitter you know I am still live and kicking.
So I am always looking for new ways to share kool stuff out there with everyone but don't want to cram everything into one blog and have 40 posts a day. So thats when I decided to break up my posting/sharing habits with the service Posterous.
First I like to post a lot of geeky pics, videos, just off the wall stuff so I thought for my first Posterous blog I will go with Docking Bay 94 (which is a star wars reference) and make that the place for all geeky, off the wall, whatever goes.
Second I like to share movie trailers, movie posters, and of course my movie reviews so I decided to create a Posterous blog called At The Movie With The Geek where you can find all those goodies as well.
I am working on a third right now called PixelBits but it is not quite ready (or no content) so you should see it soon but it will be a place where I post pictures I just snap so it could be pretty much anything that catches my eye.
So there you have it some stuff I am pushing out there to extend what I do here on the blog and around the web. One great thing I really like about Posterous is the ability for it to take my posts to the service and blast it out to my twitter, friendfeed, flickr, ect at one time making the actual work I need to do to share it with everyone pretty much 0%.

I really enjoy putting out content and sharing all the kool stuff I found out there on the interwebs and such. So I am curious who is out there following my blog posts? Where are you located? If I am not following you where can I find you? Even if I am following you where can WE find you?
I want to make this as much as a chance for me to maybe add some of my followers who I might not know about as well as letting my other followers maybe find others they can follow as well.

So with everything going on around the web these days it seems like things are changing on a daily basis and for me it seems like I have multiple hats I like to put on with everything I like to talk about and participate in these days so I have decided to mix things up around my personal branding and what is out there for all you my followers.
I want to bring (jeff)isageek.net back to being a long form blog with posts about social media, events going on here in the midwest, and new serices I am using and how I am using them ect ect.
But I also want to keep putting out geeky stuff, funny stuff, stuff about bacon, lego, star wars, on and on and of course want to keep putting out my movie reviews and stuff pertaining to that.
The New Focus
(jeff)isageek.net will be my main blog. The place I talk about social media, gadgets, tech, the web. New services I am checking out there as well as events I attend around the KC area like meetups, barcamps, wordcamps, ect ect.
Docking Bay 94 - the place for me to put all my geeky stuff, my star wars stuff, my youtube videos, and everything else a geek finds interesting. I want to share this stuff but I dont want to bog the main site down with this stuff and bury the great content I create to share with everyone.
At The Movies With The Geek - The place where I will be sharing my movie reviews and movie related links, pics, and videos. The place I can be a movie geek.
So I have started setting everything up and have started using my ideas and have to say I am really liking it. throw in distribution via serices like twitter, friendfeed, facebook, ect ect and I think this is a great way to get the (jeff)isageek brand, content, and all the stuff I love out there to you my followers.

I am not really sure why I didn't set this up earlier but now you can get all my blog posts via your favorite email client. I have found myself doing this more as I continue to make gmail my central hub for all my content around the web.
Basically I used the option provided by feedburner that others around the web use. I really like the way it is formatted and it is nice to get my emails, twitter, friendfeed, podcasts, and blog posts in one central location.
I have created two ways for people to follow what I am finding interesting out there with everyone's rss feeds by creating a link blog that you too can subscribe to and get all the great content that I find while reading all my sources.
The first way to get my stories is to subscribe to the rss feed and the other is to grab the twitter feed I have created and then the stories will show up in your favorite twitter app.
So there ya go...don't have time to read through a ton of rss feeds but want to know what is going on then this could be the answer for you.

It has been a great holiday season for me this year and now I am getting back into the regular swing of things blogging/geeky wise. Getting back into reading my rss feeds, finding all the kool geeky stuff everyone loves and of course blogging.

Hey everyone I am having an issue. I seem to be getting someone who is trying to setup multiple users on my wordpress blog each day. They are just random letters so I am assuming it is a spammer or a bot. Is there a way to shut off allowing people to setup an account? Any help with the issue would be appreciated.

Hey Everyone....Just wanted to check in and let you all know I am still here, alive and kicking. If you follow me on other services like twitter and friendfeed you probably noticed I have been around but a lot lighter use wise the normal.
The reason? Allison and I took the last week off to take a little break from work, work on some projects around the house (in and out), and just spend some time togather.
With that said I am back and ready to start blogging and sharing all my normal geekiness with everyone. Overall a nice little break.
Look for some pics of our front yard landscaping project, our newly painted basement, and of course my new 42 inch TV.
Thanks to my friend sarahintampa for pointing out a twitter posting of mine made it in a story for the CBS station in SF about a year ago. pretty kool! I know I am a geek. hehe
On a side note I thought it was interesting how in the story they talked about how twitter was around a year old and people were talking about how it was nothing...fast forward to now and look how it continues to grow. It just keeps going and going and......

Recently I was looking for a way to present all the services I am on @ the main page of jeffisageek.net and found a kool little widget you can install called showyourself.
You see usually when i link to my site I point it to the blog but sometimes when talking to someone it is nice to just say jump over to jeffisageek.net so I wanted to have a presence on that page to point the user to my flickr, or my disqus, or my blog, or whatever other service they might be interested in checking out.
showyourself makes it easy to get things up and running quickly and gives you a nice customizable widget to add all of your services....so if that is something you are looking for maybe check them out. below is what my widget looks like.
Yesterday I was going thru my rss feeds and found a post by cordiva over at shegeeks talking about her site going mobile using MoFuse and how it was pretty kool.
I think setup took me all of about 20 min (if that) and I signed up for a pro account so I could use the domain of my choice (1st month is free and $3 bucks after that for a pro account).
MoFuse seems like a pretty nice service that is just starting out....look forward to see what they have in store for the future but for now I think its kool to provide my content to people accessing from their mobile device in a nice, neat, and mobile friendly presentation.
Whats up everyone...I came up with an idea today for what I thought would be a kool idea. Basically what I am looking for is everyone to comment on this post who follows me on twitter, friendfeed, disqus, or where ever you know me from.
Just leave some information....your username on the service you follow me on, maybe a link to your blog, where you are from, whatever!!! That a way I learn a little more about who is following me and you might find someone kool who comments that you can add to your services.
So my goal is to get 100 people....might be a lofty but hey it will be fun in the process. ok start commenting now!
Every once in awhile I like to pimp out my linkblog because one I think I find some pretty good stuff and two I have had a lot of new readers recently and thought I would share with them for the first time.
If you are unfamiliar with what a linkblog is basically its a collection of stories I find on the internet that are mainly about tech but can include something on the more geeky side or even something newsworthy...just depends.
I like to share the linkblog to help others find the hot stories in the tech/social media web and also maybe allow others to discover new feeds they can check out. And hey if you dont feel like subscribing to a lot of feeds to keep you rss reader from hitting critical mass this could be something for you as well.
If this sounds interesting to you by all means grab the rss feed and see if you discover some new stuff. Feel free to leave a comment and give your experiences with the linkblog.

Well I had checked with friends and searched the net to see what the buzz was on WordPress 2.5 and see how everyone was doing with their upgrades. Pretty much all I got was rave reviews and everyone was telling me I would love v2.5.
Well about 30 min ago I decided to pull the trigger and make the upgrade...my verdict....love it! And with the WordPress Upgrade Plugin it was a piece of cake! I cannot recommend it enough for getting that new version installed.
I like the layout, the look, the ease of use. just wanna say to the wordpress development guys...Great Job!
