Clicker : Your On Screen Guide To Whats Playing On The Web

So have you heard of the new service Clicker? Its basically looking to become the on screen guide of your computer and like a DVR where you can go see the new episodes of your favorite tv and web based shows (also music/movies). Seems like a pretty kool concept so check out the video below to get the demo they did at TechCrunch50.
Clicker is the ultimate guide to Internet television. As massive amounts of programming move online, consumers are entering a world of infinite choices, all on-demand. Great! Finding the show you want to watch? Painful.
Thousands of episodes from thousands of shows are housed on thousands of different sites, mixed amongst billions of random videos. Clicker culls all broadcast programming, and TV-quality Web originals, from these silos and delivers them in one seamless, organized experience so you can easily find, save, share and even contribute content for any show or episode online.
I have played around with the service a bit since getting my invite and I must say it is pretty nice. It makes grabbing the new episode of that show you like that is not easily found on hulu and gets it to you right away instead of having to click through one of the networks sites.
Would you like to check it out? I got 5 invites. Either shoot me and email with your email address or send me a DM and I will get them to the first 5 who ask.
Mention Notifier Brings You Twitter List Notifications

So recently I wrote about Mention Notifier which is a service that will send you either emails or text messages when you get mentioned on Twitter or you setup a twitter search and the criteria is met which is a really kool service (and they just went real time!) and now they have a new feature to the service.....Twitter list notification!
That's right the hot new thing on the interwebs are Twitter lists and now by using Mention Notifier you can be notified everytime someone adds you to a list.
Below is an example of what you will see in your email:
@MentionNotifier has found a new list that you belong to.
.LAG | Larry Green has added you to technophile

I must say this is a great way to keep up with who is showcasing your tweets. Great job guys!
Happy Halloween To All The Geeks Out There!
Just wanted to say Happy Halloween to all my geeks and feel free to share a link to your costume pics or shoot me a twitpic on twitter. Have a safe and fun one! This year I am going as a killer ninja klown.

Brizzly Adds Facebook Functionality [Plus Invites!]

So one of the Twitter related services that has been on my radar the past few months is Brizzly which to me takes the Twitter service and puts it at another level. It really gives you some features you wont find just using twitter.com and has some features you wont find in other twitter services and apps.

Today Brizzly added another feature to put them even higher up on my kool services when they went ahead and integrated your facebook within the service. Basically once you add your Facebook account to Brizzly its just like you added another twitter account. Just click on the facebook icon and you are in the facebook world....get tired of that and want to go back to twitter....click the twitter icon and bam your back to 140 character goodness.
So far in my early findings it is pretty quick to pull the updates from Facebook but one thing I would love to see is the ability to pull my Facebook groups I have created to better follow my friends. Also at this time I do not think you can add pics or video from Brizzly to Facebook.
This week I wrote a blog post about going back to Twitter.com as my default Twitter client with the help of Lists and Greasemonkey scritps but with the addition of Facebook and when Brizzly is able to full my lists from Twitter with the list API I will seriously consider moving 100% over to Brizzly.
[Invites]
Wanna check out all the Brizzly goodness and see what you think of the Facebook integration? I got 10 invites to give out so just DM me on Twitter with your email address and say I wanna check out Brizzly and I will shoot one your way!
Enjoy!

KC Runs On Dunkin Nov 12th!!!
You heard it right Nov 12th Dunkin Donuts opens once again in the Kansas City area and the first store will be located at 7720 West 151st Street in Overland Park. I myself plan to be there when they open the doors at 5am to get me some munchkins!

For the opening day they plan to have a collection for Harvesters as well as Kansas City Legend George Brett will be in attendance. For more information on the big day you can follow DDinKC or check out the site cupofkc. You can also follow Dunkin Donuts on twitter for general information.
So who else is planning to be there for the grand opening? Maybe we can get a tweetup for the big day.

Pimp Twitter With pbtweet

So earlier today I had written a post about going back to Twitter.com as my default Twitter client with one of the reasons being was the kool greasemonkey scripts out there that allowed you to get extra functionality not available as standard options.
Well after I posted that I had a reply from Mitchell McKenna who pointed me in the direction of a script to use called pbtweet (had been using troynt). So I decided to check out the site and must say I have been really impressed with it and think it will be my default script for enhancing my twitter experience.
Here is a little video showing some of the highlights (shows an install on a mac but you can use it with greasemonkey as well like I did)
Overall I really like the placement of the RT, via, DM, and translation buttons, the picture integration and throwing a thumbnail on the right of the tweet, the threaded conversation bubbles are pretty sweet, and the pagination as well.
I also have to say the developers have been really great in answering questions I had about an issue with the retweet button and they got right back to me and gave me a fix. Always a plus!
So if you are looking for ways to tweak your twitter experience I would recommend checking out pbtweet.
The Google Story

I found this little video over at The Next Web that takes you through the story that is Google and how they have grown over the last 11 years.
Video went a little to fast for you or you want to see a little bit more info? Well google has their own interactive timeline you can check out as well.

Back To Twitter As My Default Twitter Client

For the longest time I have been using other ways to access my Twitter message and to follow those who I have found interesting or informative with apps like Tweetdeck or web based service like Seesmic or Brizzly. The reason for that was that most of the services offered basic things that helped enhance my twitter experience over the twitter website itself but recently that has started to change and I wanted to share with everyone what has started me back on the past to using twitter.com once again.
The first thing is Greasemonkey scripts. I have installed and have been using troynt's twitter script which takes a lot of features that are missing or that enhance twitter and add them right into the service like the ability to one click RT, neted replies, pagination, media embedding, and overall very customizable script.
The second is the newly added feature of user lists! This has been something I have wanted to see added for a while now and this gives me the ability to break up the people I follow into interest groups like geeks, my smckc peeps, my real life friends, celeberties, ect ect and makes it easier to follow more people in a better manner as well as share with others a list of users they might want to check out as well.
note: I will say I have noticed in the early stages of lists it can be kinda buggy adding someone to a list but other then that I have not noticing anything really to crazy.
So there you have it...I am back to actually using twitter.com has my twitter client of choice due to some of the customization that is available out there on the interwebs as well as some of the features that twitter itself is adding on to enhance the direct use.

Google Wave On Your Palm Pre? There’s A Hack For That!

So the hot new web app for everyone to use these days is Google Wave and thankfully one of my buddies was able to spare me an invite and with my recent purchase of my Palm Pre I like to try the services I use on my computer to see if maybe I can use them on my Pre when I am away from my computer and going light for carrying tech devices.
I had seen where the iPhone had access to Google Wave and the layout looked pretty nice so I thought hey lets give it a shot! The outcome was not the best. I pretty much has to zoom in to see my waves and it seemed like it was crashing on me....overall not the best experience to follow my waves when on the move.

Now what I have come to find out is the issue is that like some mobile sites that do not format correctly Google Wave does not recognize the Pre correctly and gives it the normal mobile experience and not the kool look that comes up when using mobile safari.
That is where the "iPhone user agent spoof" tweak via webOS quick install comes in. It basically does what it says it makes the server you are hitting think you are accessing that you are coming in with the safari browser so it formats your experience likewise.
Now I can say I am happily using Google Wave on my Pre and it is pretty nice. Gotta love the tweaks coming from the Pre community.
What Google Wave looks like on the iPhone and now the Pre with the tweak

(obviously the shots are on an iphone but this is what it looks like on the pre as well)
What you need
Nice documentation on getting WebOS Quick Install setup on your machine (and for future installs of homebrew apps)
Once you have Quick Install up and running you can grab the iPhone user agent tweak, reboot your pre and you should be set to go!
*Note* I have noticed you need to wait until the main google wave page has loaded or you will get an error and have to refresh your google wave session. So give it a min or two to completely load.
So there you have it if you are a veteran of hacking/tweaking your Palm Pre then you know what I am talking about with all this but if you are new to the Pre and need some help I would be more then happy to help you with this and any other tweaks you are looking to make. You can hit me up via email, contact me on twitter, or hey just comment here on the blog post.
I just really wanted to get this post out to let all the Palm Pre geeks out there that you CAN run Google Wave via the Pre. Enjoy!
*Update* Obviously Google Wave is a new system that still has some issues so I have found times and some waves that will from time to time crash on me even with the tweaks so hey don't expect perfection.

The First 5 Billion Tweets : A Pie Chart
So it was just announced that Twitter went over 5 billion tweets recently and I am proud to share this chart with the breakdown of what those tweets were about.

Interesting stuff
Kansas City KiteUp Nov 3rd : Burgers, Brews & Brightkite!

So I just heard the news that Kansas City will be having its 2nd Brightkite meetup known as a KiteUp and it will be Tuesday Nov 3rd at the Westport Flea Market! Now the last event was awesome and I met some of the great people in our local Brightkite community and this one from the sound of it should be off the charts...a dont miss event.

Here are the details.....
When : Tuesday November 3rd, 2009
Time : 5pm to 10pm
Where : Westport Flea Market Bar and Grill (817 Westport Rd)
Cost : Canned or boxed food donation for Harvesters Community Food Network.
We have a goal of 300 pounds of food for Harvesters. If everyone brings just 4 cans, we'll be over the top!
We've got a team working to make this party something special. I've heard rumor that there will be NEW BrightKite Tshirts! We're also gathering donations from some great Kansas City businesses for a raffle...more details to come on that.
So, grab a bag, thin your pantry and join us for Burgers, Brews and BrightKite!
Also note that the full menu will be available and Tuesdays are 2fer burger night so come hungry!
This like the last event will be a lot of fun and I hope to see you all there.

Mention Notifier : Get Your Tweets Via Email

So I am always looking for new ways to get tweets I really want to follow and have always wanted to have the ability to get them directly to my gmail account. I had tried a few options but they just didnt pan out but that was until a local Kansas City service Mention Notifier hit the scene (MentionNotifier is © 2009 @timhibbard of EnGraph Software.)
The basic premise behind Mention Notifier is you put in your search term into the service (either @username, a hashtag, or term) supply an email address to have the tweets delivered to and you are in business.
Since it uses the twitter search API you can use operators like OR as well as AND or maybe you want to get tweets just sent by a certain person....then use the from:! Very kool!
As you play around with your follows you will see how easy the service is to use but how very useful it can be. Check it out and get some tweets in your inbox.
