MooTools – Startup Schwag For The Month

mootools

So I got home today and sitting there on the front porch was my monthly Startup Schwag bag!!!!  I always get excited wondering what will be in the bag this month.  So I ran inside ripped open the bag to find this months shirt is from MooTools.

The Fortress Of Solitude

Wondering what MooTools is exactly?  Well here ya go :

MooTools is a compact, modular, Object-Oriented JavaScript framework designed for the intermediate to advanced JavaScript developer. It allows you to write powerful, flexible, and cross-browser code with its elegant, well documented, and coherent API.

MooTools code respects strict standards and doesn't throw any warnings. It's extensively documented and has meaningful variable names: a joy to browse and a snap to understand.

So there ya have it another great shirt from the gang over at startup schwag! They have had some really good ones lately and I always look forward to the next package each month.

[An added note I wanted to say congrats to Startup Schwag for their 2 year anniversary coming up...been with ya since the beginning]

Need Some Wallpapers For Your Palm Pre?

palmpre

So I found a kool group on flickr that has a pretty big collection of pictures that are the right size for your Palm Pre wallpaper (which i believe is 320x480).

Two many to decide which one to use?  Why don't you use Switcharoo which is a homebrew app that allows you to switch your wallpaper on your Pre in an interval of your liking.

switcharoo0.9.3

Do you have some kool wallpaper/background images?  maybe a link to a nice collection?  Share with everyone whatcha got!

Palm Pre : Getting Your Homebrewing On!!

precentral-logo

Are you a Palm Pre user?  Are you maybe not happy with the number of apps that are available in the official app store?  Well there is an answer for you and it has (at the writing of this blog) 160 apps and growing!

With the homebrew apps directory provided by PreCentral.net you can get lots of apps out there that can help you customize your Pre how you want it, games, productivity apps, twitter apps, ect ect. created by developers and Pre users like yourself.

fcoaster_2009-06-08_081228

Now in order to get the functionality of the homebrew apps you have to follow a few directions but it really is not to complicated and to help with the process check out this How To : Install Homebrew apps which is very good and makes the process very simple.

Basically you need the most updated version of java, one little app to run on your machine (for just the first time then you can use filecoaster for adding apps directly on your Pre), and of course the kool code for unlocking the developer mode “upupdowndownleftrightleftrightbastart” (thats awesome!).

For me having the homebrew stuff is a big plus and reason I am really looking forward to getting my Pre.  If you decide you are interested in getting into them and have some questions on how to get everything up and running feel free to contact me anytime either via email or shoot me a message on twitter.....I would love to help you out the best I can.

The Palm Pre : A New Era For (jeff)isageek

sprint-palm-pre

Thats right!!! With Tuesday almost over I am now officially under a week before I purchase my new phone which if you don't follow me around the internet will be the Palm Pre! I cannot wait! I have been playing around with the SDK, emulator, other people's Palm Pre's and following all the talk the forums.

There are a lot of things I am looking forward to with the Pre like better notifications then I am use to with my current phone, the great integration with many google services, great multitasking, using it with itunes and pandora, and adding apps as they come along (which is slowly becoming more and more daily).

Those are just a few things and I am sure I am missing a few but overall I am just looking for a kool new experience with a phone that so far I have really enjoyed learning all about!

You can bet over the next week and beyond I will have more on my thoughts and kool stuff I find out there on the interweb.

[side note] a great site with lots of info, blog, and great forum is precentral.net if you are looking for information

S.M.A.A – Social Media Addicts Association

Got a little chuckle out of this video for the S.M.A.A

from stopwritingonmywall.com

Are you one of the millions of people whose lives have been ruined by a never-ending torrent of tweets, friend requests and ‘Which kind of pasta are you?' quizzes? Then it's time you joined the Social Media Addicts Association.

SMAA is run by reformed social media addicts who all had the courage to stand up and admit to their problem. Will you stop poking people you haven't seen since college, and join us?

"I know she will poke me back"

Hey Everyone!!! Hope all is well in your world where ever you might be. One thing I like to do from time to time is post a message to say thanks for checking out my posts whether they be here on the blog, my posterous sites, on twitter, friendfeed, ect ect.

I want to make this as much as a chance for me to maybe add some of my followers who I might not know about as well as letting my other followers maybe find others they can follow as well.

So leave a comment and say hi, tell us where you are at on the web, what you are interested in and we can all find some kool peeps in the process!

Thanks again everyone for following the blog and (jeff)isageek in general.

Add Diigo To Google Readers New “Send To” Feature

diigo

So the Google Reader team recently announced a bunch of new features to the service including Send To that allows you to send the stories you find to services like twitter, del.icio.us, digg, ect

settings

I am a user of the social bookmarking site Diigo and wanted to have that available to add my stories I found interesting to my account. Google Reader was nice enough to add the feature where you could add custom services that they might not have listed by default which I thought was pretty kool.

So listed here is the info you need to use in order to get Diigo up and running for yourself.

1 - Obviously you will first log into Google Reader and go to settings. Once there click on the 'Send To' tab
2 - You will see the default services listed and at the bottom of the page you will see 'Create A Custom Link'
3 - Place your title i.e diigo in this case. Under URL put this 'http://www.diigo.com/post?url=${url}?title=${title}'
4 - For an icon I grabbed the 16x16 here http://www.iconarchive.com/show/web-2-icons-by-fasticon/Diigo-icon.html

Once you have all of that click save and you should be ready to go!

My Guest Appearance On The FFundercats

ffundercats

Last week I got a great chance to be a guest host on one of my favorite podcasts FFundercats which is a show that's subject is about a service I have come to love in FriendFeed. FFundercats is a podcast by FriendFeeders, for FriendFeeders, and about FriendFeed.

One of the regular hosts Josh Haley was out on vaction and Johnny Worthington asked if I could fill in and help talk about some of the big news around the web from the week as well as some of the goings on around FriendFeed.

I had an awesome time and look forward to maybe getting on the show again real soon!

On a side note I was glad with how I sounded as I was using my new USB headset which has really improved my sound quality when doing various shows. If you are looking for someone to be on your podcast feel free to contact me as I love chatting with other geeks about all things geeky.

[Check out FFundercats Episode 41]

Thanks again Guys!!

TheSocialGeeks Episode 19 – FaceFriend FeedBook

With the news of the FriendFeed acquisition by Facebook yesterday we decided to get the gang together for a new episode of The Social Geeks Podcast. We had almost a full crew with Chris (idonotes), myself, Wayne Sutton, Sarah Perez, Corvida, and Louis Gray.

As always you can head over to the Mevio site or to The Social Geeks site for the audio as well as past episodes.
