Geekvolution – A Home For The Geeks!
One of my buddies Ryan Flannagan has a new service coming out soon called Geekvolution which I have heard him call "a network for nerds".
I know his company is going down to SXSW to demo and soon it should be in private beta. So check out the little promo below and when I get some invites going I will let everyone know so you can check it out.
bacn.me : Making Your URL’s Yummy (And Tiny)

There is a new URL shortner out there on the interweb and it is called bacn.me which like any other service like it takes a long web address and shortens it to just a few characters.
Why would you use bacn.me over all the other services that do the same thing? well that is kind of obvious....the others don't have anything to do with bacon which will make anything better! hehe
Seriously though its a fun little way to shorten those long urls, they have a bookmarklet you can add to your browser for quick shortening, and a list with the top links that have been baconized (is that a word??).
Looking for more bacon coverage on the interwebs then check out Bacon Geek or maybe you want to add a slice of bacon to your blog? Then check out my post "Enhance Any Site By Adding Bacon". Enjoy!

FriendFeed : Some Thoughts On The Service

If you have been following my blog or twitter for any amount of time then you know I have a love affair with the service FriendFeed and that I am always getting excited over a new feature or posting something up on the service which then turns around and puts it up on my other social services I use like twitter or facebook.
I know talking to others at meetups and such I find people who are interested in FriendFeed or think it is to much to follow so they are kinda on the fence when it comes to the service.
Recently two people I follow on the interweb and most likely you do as well have talked about why they use FriendFeed or even more why you should.
Thomas Hawk posted "10 Reasons Why You Should Sigh Up FriendFeed" which included the ease of signing up, better exposure for your work, as well as it lets you get rid of your RSS reader.
Robert Scoble also put his two cents in on the idea of how great FriendFeed is by posting "Things I've learned by clicking "like" 15,301 times" which included likes are searchable, meta data, and he is getting to know his followers more intimately.
For me these were two great posts that I can pull ideas from when talking about what I find interesting when it comes to FriendFeed and why it has become a HUGE part of my daily internet usage. So check those stories out and feel free to comment your thoughts on FriendFeed...what you like about it and what you dont like about it.
Script Adds A Mentions Tab On Twitter

My fellow friendfeeder Hao Chen has created a sweet script for those using greasemonkey that does two things on your twitter page:
one - it adds how many unread @replies messages you have.
two - addes a @mentions tab that when you click on it you get to see any twitter messages that include your username and not just the one's that start out with @<username> like in the @replies.
I must say its a nice little script to have to enhance the twitter website.
[script - twitter : show # of unread replies + adds mentions]

Tickets On Sale Now For Startup Weekend KC

The other day I blogged about Startup Weekend which will be coming to Kansas City April 24th thru the 26th and now I am happy to report that tickets are on sale for the event as we speak.
From what I have heard they are capping the attendance at 75 and with such a kool idea and the buzz going around about this you know those are gonna go fast!

Startup Weekend Coming To Kansas City

Big news in the Kansas City area as I have learned that we will be having a Startup Weekend here April 24th thru the 26th. Now I have never had the chance to go to a Startup Weekend but sounds like something kool to check out.
What is Startup Weekend?
Startup Weekend is an intense event bringing brilliant tech minds together to create companies, projects and great tech communities!
What is the weekend like?
The weekend is fun, mentally simulating and always profitable (2 of those are true)! It starts Friday at 6pm and finishes up Sunday at 6pm, the hours in between are up to the community. Startup Weekend gets everyone in the same room, sometimes clothes and always feeds. What is next is really up to the people that show up, it is your drive and passion that will lead the weekend.
What is the agenda?
Have you ever worked at a startup? Startup Weekends don’t really have agendas, just general times when the building is open for everyone to meet and work. If you are an agenda driven person, Startup Weekend might not be for you. You make the agenda based on the people, ideas and mood.
Sound like something you are interested in? For the KC event you can check out the blog, the twitter feed and if you tweet about the event make sure you use the hash tag #kcsw.
Right now the details are getting ironed out but keep your eye out on the blogs or twitter for any new updates as they become available.
Bring Your Twitter Friends To FriendFeed

FriendFeed added a kool new option that allows you to bring your Twitter friends over to your FriendFeed stream with a few simple clicks.

The friend importer for twitter basically takes your twitter user name (no password needed) finds who out there is also on FriendFeed and lets you add all those users to a current list or create a new one. Once you have done that you are ready to follow those new friends feeds.
Pretty simple but also a great way to add to your FriendFeed addiction hehe
Side Note - I added 629 new people to my FriendFeed using the importer so pretty sweet!!

What On TV Tonight? WordPress Of Course!!!
WordPress recently announced WordPress.tv your visual portal to all that is WordPress from How To videos all the way to Wordcamp coverage.
Just jumping around on the new .tv site I am really liking what I am seeing...this will be a great resource for those looking to start with wordpress, those having issues with a certain part of the blogging software, or those looking to check out the wordcamp stuff.
From the WordPress.tv crew
Our goal with WordPress.tv is simple:
To make it easy for you to find up-to-date, WordPress-themed video content within a couple of clicks. Without having to wade through spammy promotional videos, out-of-date content, and missing chunks of presentations.
I must say this is a great job by all. enjoy everyone.
Daily Mugshot – A Fun Little Service
There are those services out there that really help you be productive like gmail or remember the milk, services that help you keep up with all your friends and the latest stuff like twitter and friendfeed, and then there are those services that are just fun.
Daily Mugshot is one of those fun little services (at least I think so). Basically all you do is post a picture of yourself every day and then as you add more and more pics you can share your mugshow which is all your shots combined almost like an old school flip book.
You can of course add friends to follow to check their daily shots as well as you can either email, use a webcam, or take your pics with your mobile device.
Like I said its not a service that is gonna change your life or help you be productive....its just fun! Check out my mugshow below (after 8 days using the service).
If you are using the service make sure to add me as a friend and I will add you back.
[added note] I almost forgot to add you can setup Daily Mugshot so that it posts a twitter message for you each time you load a new mugshot alerting your friends to check it out.

Enhance Any Site By Adding Bacon!

Do you have a site that you are wanting to improve? Maybe want to make your favorite online service even better? Well with bacolicio.us you can do just that by adding a strip of BACON to any site, blog, or service.
bacolicio.us was created by Chris and Nick and basically what the service does is slaps a slice of bacon onto the page of your choice. Pretty easy stuff...and they even have a bookmarklet to make the process easy.
For an example page you can see my site bacon-ized by clicking here http://bacolicio.us/http://www.jeffisageek.net
[check out the bacolicio.us blog]
There is even a greasemonkey script to add a slice of bacon to every site you go to...now that is awesome! haha
