Contxts : Cause Business Cards Are So Yesterday
As I have started going to more and more tech conferences I have watched everyone hand out their business cards with their contact information and I have to say some of them are really kool (i.e. moo cards) but I always thought wouldnt it be kool to have a way to send my information that would be on my card via my phone in real time? not have to purchase new cards all the time? know that that person is just not gonna toss my card and never see it again?
If you are thinking like me the Contxts is the service for you. With Contxts you use your phone to send your contact information straight from your phone to whoever you are conversing with or others can text to the service and get your contact information at anytime. Some of the benefits of Contxts would be....
- Exchange all of your professional information with a single text message
- Keep all of your professional contacts organized in one place
- It's eco-friendly (txt messages don't kill polar bears)
- Rid yourself of "old school" business cards
- Link with other professionals
How does contxts work? Well there are two ways you can use the service via sms text message
From your phone, you txt “send 3034759204” to 50500 (where 3034759204 is your recipients 10 digit number)
Your recipient will receive all of your contact information.
Your contact txts “username” to 50500 on their phone
You will receive a request confirmation (unless you have it turned off). Upon accepting, your contact will receive your information
To try out Contxts text 'jeffisageek' to 50500 and you will get my information.

November 18, 2008 - This isn't as crazy as it sounds, and it's not just kids doing it. In the past couple of days, I've had three different adults tell me that they researched 3 different things on YouTube: quitting smoking, tattoo removal, and yoga. That's stuff I would have googled. All 3 people are what I would call "mainstream" computer users, too.

November 17, 2008 - DC Comics is really starting to worry me. James Robinson and Grant Morrison are both apparently ticked off; Final Crisis final issue being rewritten... maybe it really is time for Didio to go, especially if he's trotting out a story that's too damned similar to something from 1988... And WHY ON EARTH would you ever take Superman out of Action Comics?

Twitter Passes The 1 Billion Message Mark
Today while reading my rss feeds I discovered that Twitter has smashed through the 1 billion tweets mark. a fraction of those are due to me.
Definitely shows that in a short time how big of a role twitter is for all of us online daily. Just think as the service grows and becomes more mainstream how fast we will get to 10 billion? 1 trillion!
The E-Waste Nightmare
Saw this segment on 60 minutes Sunday about E-Waste and how our electronics that we dispose of in the proper way are getting sent over to china and destroying a city. Definitely an eye opener as to where our waste is going.
grabbed the video from a fellow local blogger Ramsey.
Highlight Midwest – Evening Panel [Video]
Silicon Prairie News just put up a blog post with the video from the evening panel at the Kauffman Foundation for Highlight Midwest.
If you were unable to attend the event this is a great way to see some great presentations as well as some insight from a panel that was full of people from around the midwest.

Walk The Vote
Decided since my voting location was so close that I would walk to do my civic duty. Not only did I get to vote for the next president but I got to get a little exercise and help myself as well as my country.
He is the little video I took along the way.....
Dont forget to vote...you still have time. Help make our country a better place.
Fanboys Trailer
I so cannot wait for this movie to come out. looks like it is gonna be funny stuff for all us geeks
AMC Preview of “Fork And Screen”
Last week I got a great opportunity to check out AMC Theatres new attraction called "Fork and Screen" which steps up what you would normally consider a night at the movies.
It not only adds a menu to your visit to your next feature film but also adds some extra features like reclining chairs, swivel tables, eye candy while walking the halls, and a full bar to enjoy during your stay.
I must say AMC has done an awesome job enhancing the movie watching experience while not really adding a lot of extra expense. The new non suite theaters are actually the same price as a normal ticket and you get an upgraded experience from what we have been use to over the years and for just 10 bucks more you get the really kool theater with the 2 person cinema suite for the ultimate in relaxation.
I took a few videos while I was there and thought I would share them with ya......
First is as you enter the "Fork and Screen" experience (you must be at least 18 or have an adult with you to enter)
Next we have a preview of the AMC Cinema Suites with the really kool chairs....
If you get a chance to check out the services go for it....Allison and I had a great time and we wanted to thank AMC for getting the chance to check it out.
Highlight Midwest Presentation: Swindlr
Swindlr is a new social networking type service that centers around events. The tagline is "It's not who you are. It's what you do."
In my ongoing series I was able to us my flip camera to catch their presentation at Highlight Midwest. The presenter was Chase Hawkins of Swindlr.
Microblink : News From The Microblogging World
I sat in on a presentation last week called "Microblogging, Macro Impact" by Mike Templeton which one talked about microblogging and its rise on the web and Mike also talked about his site who he runs with another guy I met in Rob Jensen called Microblink.
Since Highlight Midwest I grabbed the rss feed and have been following some of the stories they have put up on the site and if you are like me and are always looking for sites to keep up with what is new and fresh on the web today when it comes to twitter and other microblogging services this would be one to keep your eyes on.
It was great meeting the guys and Mike had a great presentation. If you get a chance drop on over to the site and check it out...maybe tweet about it as well (hehe).

Backtype : Tracking Comments On The Interweb
I recently started using a new service called Backtype who's tagline is "Find, follow, and share comments on the web."
It is pretty much an easy service to use with an easy premise....sign up, go make comments on the web, find comments on the web, and of course share them with your friends. No software to install and any scripts or widgets. Thats it!
jumping to the site you can add friends to follow, search for comments based on keywords, or setup the service to work with your twitter account.
Visit my Backtype Page [add me a follower and I will add ya back]
