Need Some Wordpress Help : Users
September 10th, 2008 by (jeff)isageek

Hey everyone I am having an issue.  I seem to be getting someone who is trying to setup multiple users on my wordpress blog each day.  They are just random letters so I am assuming it is a spammer or a bot.  Is there a way to shut off allowing people to setup an account?  Any help with the issue would be appreciated.

  • If you don't want to allow users at all, it's under Settings (General) - you will see a Membership section for 'Anyone can register' - just turn that off.
  • Darn. You must have just been finishing up when I started my reply!
  • Hey Tim

Thanks for your help on the issue. got it all fixed up.
  • There definitely is, Jeff. Go to WP-ADMIN > Settings > General > uncheck "Anyone can register".

Since you are using Disqus, you don't need to change the default behavior of comments.

That should take care of it!
  • Hey There thanks for your help on that issue. I knew the option was there just couldnt find it for some reason :)
  • See my tweet and also under Settings -> General there is the option that says "Anyone can register". Mine is checked. You might try unchecking that.
  • So I didn't see the comments until I commented.. Looks like you figured it out. Odd I wouldn't see any comments until I made my comment.
