Hot Streaming 8-bit Goodness
August 29th, 2008 by (jeff)isageek

8bit

I recently discovered kohina which streams 8/16 bit music straight from consoles like the commodore 64 and atari 2600.  Now if you are a geek like me this is some awesome news as this has become my background music when I am at work and I am gonna get my fm transmitter out and see if I can stream from my phone to my car stereo which would be hellakool!

Kohina is a free “just for fun” web stream, streaming the classic 8/16 bit computer, arcade, and console music of our misspent youth, as well as the latest scene music from the platforms that remain active.

Check it out and let me know what you think.

  • Hi everybody,

I would like to share to you my webpage dedicated to chipmusic (8bit music, lo-fi music, micromusic, chiptune) :
    http://www.woolyss.free.fr/chipmusic.php

You will find many links to :
    - VSTi plugins(freewares mainly) directly downloadable, sorted by emulation type
    - good chiptrackers (without hardware emulator)
    - chiptune webradios
    - chiptune composers
    - chiptune netlabels
    - chiptune hardwares
    - chiptune generators
    - more and more audio demos about each VSTi plugin !

    Thank you. Enjoy !
  • I think kohina's is not just for kids, but also for the gamer fan.
  • Well it's a good idea dude. Almost all game music is in .midi, but still nice to hear.
  • This is just great. I remember a lot of tones in my console box which I always loved to have .. I remember the ninja turtle soundtrack.
  • Oh man...Atari's really ancient. I bet they can get a good price on Ebay.
  • For kids trying new things out, Kohina is pretty cool already.
  • Kohina's ok for kids. The website looked like the Matrix though.
