WarGames : 25 Years Later

WarGames

This Thursday night I will be going to the movies to relive a movie that I consider one of the key factor’s in me becoming a geek.  This is the 25th anniversary year of the movie “WarGames” a 1983 film staring Matthew Broderick playing a young hacker who thinks he is playing a war simulation with a computer but soon finds out it is a real military system putting us on the brink of WWIII.

Fathom and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios are proud to present WarGames back on the big screen after 25 years. Don’t miss this one-night-only event in select movie theatres nationwide on Thursday, July 24th at 7:30PM (local).

The event will include never-before-seen interviews with cast and crew on how the movie was ahead of its time and its relevance today. Additionally, only at this one night event, get a sneak peek at the making of the sequel – WarGames: The Dead Code.

What are some movies you credit with helping mold you into the geek you are today?  Wanna know if the film is showing in your area this thursday check here on the Fathom Events page for the anniversary.

Note : If you are in the KC area and planning to attend let me know as I know a few people who will be there and would love to meet some of my fellow readers/geeks.

Tidy Up With Cleaner FriendFeed

I have been using FriendFeed since it opened its doors to everyone a few months back and it has slowly climbed to the top of my list of services I use sometimes almost by the minute up there with gmail and google reader.

Besides all the great features that have been slowly rolled out by the FriendFeed gang there has also been a great many scripts and addons that have enhanced the experience.  Everything from rooms and embedded mp3 files to scripts that allow you to add readburner right on friendfeed and others that let you send twitter messages right from the service as well.

This morning I found a nice script called Cleaner FriendFeed which you guessed it cleans up the interface a little bit and adds a few features to your pages.

* Cleaner and cool look and feel
* Different font style
* Highlights friends comments with baby yellow
* Highlights your comments with baby blue
* Replaced FriendFeed logo with FriendFeed Favicon
* Derived from Better FriendFeed

As with most scripts or add-on’s it is pretty easy to install all you need is either Stylish for Firefox loaded or you can use a greasemonkey script.  Once installed you just have to refresh or reboot and you should see you new style in action!  I for one love the look you get from Cleaner FriendFeed.  Below is a before screen shot and then an after shot so you can kinda see what the differences are.  Go out and grab it, hope you enjoy it and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Feed Radio - FriendFeed Is My New Talk Station

feed radio

One of the kool recent features on FriendFeed is the ability to embed audio into a post and then have a player embedded right there for the masses to click on and play.  Over the past few days I thought hmmm this could be kool for podcasts and help make FriendFeed a podcatcher for ya.

Well today I log into FriendFeed and J. Phil has announced the creation of “Feed Radio” and a way to follow some of the popular talk/discussion shows out there on the web.

Feed Radio as of this post has the following feeds:

Mashable Conversations
The Social Geeks
ReadBurner Weekly Live
L33t Tech News
Things You Can Say About The Internet

I think this is an awesome idea and a great way to get some of the great shows I like to listen to on a weekly basis right in my rss reader with an embedded player.

Great idea and now everyone get over there and grab the awesome content.  Who needs traditional media?

FriendFeed Is About Friends

So I am using my Jedi Mind Skills (aka FriendFeed Stats) to see who I find the most interesting based on my habits on FriendFeed and in turn who finds me the most interesting.  I thought I would share my findings after deep meditation (aka looking at the stats page) and maybe everyone can share who finds them the most interesting or who you yourself find the most interesting based on your stats.

Rock-afire Explosion Plays The Hits

Rock-afire Explosion Logo

Growing up as a kid I remember going to Showbiz Pizza and looking forward to hearing the house band Rock-afire Explosion play.

Well today on friendfeed I found a link on youtube where a person or group (not sure which) takes new songs and choreographed with the band.

Pretty kool stuff and check out this video below where they are sync’d up with the song ‘Electric Feel’ by MGMT

Twitter Meetup : Batman Style?

The other night I decided I should go ahead and purchase my ticket for the the Batman movie “Dark Knight” which will have a midnight showing next week which I will be attending at the AMC 30 here in Olathe,KS.

Thats when I thought you know what would be kool is find out if anyone else is gonna be there who might follow me on twitter, my blog, or the other handful of services I am on these days and do a little meetup…maybe there will be a bunch of people or maybe there will only be a few but in any case it would be great to meet everyone and what better time then at a geeky event like the premiere of “Dark Knight”.

So my question to everyone out there….will you be at the midnight showing (and of course at the Olathe 30) and would you be interested in a little meetup?  Let me know.

New Wordpress Theme

I just threw a new wordpress theme up on the blog to hopefully get my blogging motivation kicking in.  Let me know what you think of it.

Feel free to leave me some comments with your thoughts as I always like to get feedback from those who read my blog on a regular basis.

Thanks!

Test For FriendFeed - Take Two!

Take Two : helps if you put all the coding in the post the first time.

I thought I would test out the embedding of audio into your friendfeed by creating a post and of course attaching an mp3 file to it.  Has some potential for a few ideas I have.  So we will see.
