Using Adobe Air?
May 26th, 2008 by (jeff)isageek

adobe air

I have found my self adding more and more Adobe Air applications as the days go by so with that I thought hey I should profile a few that I am using on a daily basis for those unfamiliar with what Adobe Air is or maybe just never seen a certain app.

Twhirl
twhirl

Thwirl is the super popular twitter app that also lets you follow your friendfeed friends as well. It is super easy to use and allows you to send DM’s, replies, and easily get alerts of new tweets. I highly recommend it if you us twitter/friendfeed a lot.

Webkut
webkut

WebKut is an awesome little app that lets you grab images/screenshots from any website. an example would be all the logo’s on this post that I grabbed using the application. you can either do the whole page or just a selection. it saves them for you and then you can throw them up on your blog post, website, or wherever you are gonna use them. very kool and for a blogger very useful!

Snackr

Snackr is an rss ticker for your desktop that always you to put it on the top/bottom/sides and allows you to add rss feeds to scroll through. If you find a story you like click on it and it allows you to check out the original story. Now I dont see this taking over as my rss reader but I use it at work as kind of like a news ticker you would have on headline news just to see whats going on out there or something that catches the eye from time to time.

Just a nice little app that helps you keep your pulse on the interweb as you are doing something else.

A new one I am checking out

Shrink O’Matic
shrink o matic

Just started messing around with this one but am slowly using it more and more…what it allows you to do is drag an image onto the application and based on the setting you have selected it will shrink your image for use with a presentation, blog post, or website. a nice little handy and super easy utility to use.

So are there any Adobe Air apps you use that you would like to share with me and the readers? which do you use daily? Would love to hear about them so lets get the comment string going.

  • I'm using all of the ones you mentioned, and a few others. One that I really like is Analytics Reporting Suite, which allows me to check my Google Analytics from my desktop. The interface is a lot nicer to look at than the Google pages and it's quite detailed in the information you can access. Also, it allows you to have multiple profiles if you're tracking more than one site.
  • I absolutely love Twhirl, but it's the only air app so far that I've found interesting enough to install. Well, the Finetune one is pretty damn awesome, actually. Why did I stop using that one? I don't know. In fact, I'm off to download it now.

P.S. For screencaps, the best program I've ever found is the free and excellent gadwin print screen.
  • Glad you're liking AIR, and thanks for the tip on Shrink O'Matic - I hadn't seen that before. My favorite AIR app is still Twhirl, but FedEx just released an AIR app that lets you track packages. I see myself using that a bunch in the future.
